DJ Theory (Jake Krauth) discovered the powers of music at a very young age, and has been presenting music to listeners of every spectrum as a DJ and promoter since 2000. Currently residing in western MA, Theory's unique and dynamic approach to DJ'ing has earned him multiple residencies and a strong following of fans. He has shared the stage with numerous international artists including: KRS-1, Sizzla, Blackalicious, Soulive, Living Legends, the Okay Player tour with Little Brother/the Justus League, and a recent northeast tour with Planet Asia, just to name a few. Since Theory's performance debut in 2001, he's brought his sound to Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, and several music festivals and venues in and around New England. In 2004, while living in MA, he held down a weekly residency in New York, and has performed at various NYC venues, including the legendary BB King's Blues Club. He was also booked for the 2004 Music Conference in Miami alongside Mos Def, De La Soul and MF Doom. Theory was awarded "Best DJ" in the Valley Advocate reader's poll for three consecutive years ('04 '05 and '06.)
His mission to bring positive, heart-thumping music to a universal audience doesn't end behind the turntables however, considering Theory's recording credits, production, and hip hop/reggae remixes and mash-ups have turned heads on a national scale. Behind the boards, Theory's musicianship plays an integral part of the production process, and his natural sensibility with harmony and rhythm is displayed throughout every track.
As founder and co-owner of the Mystika Music label, DJ Theory wears many hats in the music industry. Whether it's promoting events, producing music, DJ'ing various styles of events and parties, building an independent label or politicizing with other taste-makers, Theory's work ethic goes without saying. Current projects from DJ Theory include: a full-length instrumental solo album, new mixtapes and remixes, and constant live performances/studio work with hip hop groups "The Problemaddicts" and "Lyke Minds." The other main focus lies on producing and mixing the debut album from Lyke Minds with long- time MC counterpart '1ne Man Sound.' The album is entitled "Learn About It" and is set to release mid 2007 on Mystika Music.
With dedication, focus, and raw talent leading the way, DJ Theory will surely become a household name in this young artist's upcoming years. Playing everything from roots reggae to 70's funk, 90's hip hop to 80's classics, combined with impeccable and tasteful turntablism, a DJ set from Theory is sure to entice a broad group of listeners, with originality and good times as the stock ingredients.
Setting his sights on the Bay Area of CA, big things are surely on the horizon for this promising artist.
